The receipts
Before asking you to trust the score, here's the same scan run against 100 well-known DTC brands. 40 of them have no public product feed at all — many because they moved to a headless front-end that hides it. Of the 60 that do: average 92.8/100, but 10 are still leaking AI-discoverability on the basics. Read the full writeup → or browse the leaderboard →.
What we check
- Catalog feed GTINs, Google product categories, metafields, structured data, pricing signals — the core identifiers agents use to pick products.
- Discoverability sitemap, robots, canonical tags, JSON-LD, Open Graph. Whether ChatGPT and Perplexity crawlers can even find your products.
- Reviews & availability aggregate ratings, review recency, stock status, shipping windows. The secondary signals that break ties when agents rank.
Why now
On March 24 Shopify turned Agentic Storefronts on by default for every eligible US merchant. Catalog hygiene became a direct revenue lever overnight. Adobe's 2025-holiday report shows AI-referred retail traffic grew +693% YoY and converts +31% better than non-AI traffic — but 98% of Shopify stores have no dedicated analytics in place to tell them which of those 18 signals they're failing. You can't fix what you can't see.

Frequently asked
- Does CatalogScan need access to my Shopify admin?
- No. The free scan reads only public data — your
/products.jsonfeed, sitemap.xml, robots.txt, the Open Graph tags on your home page, and the JSON-LD on one product detail page. No login, no Shopify permissions, no email gate. The Pro tier adds an OAuth integration with read-and-write scope on products and metafields for the bulk auto-fix workflow, and that is strictly opt-in. - How long does the scan take?
- About 2 seconds for most stores. CatalogScan runs all 15 public-data signals concurrently against your storefront and writes a permanent shareable scorecard at
/scorecard/{your-domain}/as soon as the scan completes. - Is the score the same for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode?
- Mostly. The 15 floor and ranking-spread signals are the union of what ChatGPT Shopping, Perplexity Shopping, and Google AI Mode read — about 12 catalog and structured-data signals overlap. Three signals diverge: Brand entity matters more for Perplexity, GTIN coverage matters more for Google AI Mode, and image alt-text matters more for ChatGPT Shopping. The score is the best single number; the per-signal breakdown lets you optimize for whichever agent you care about most.
- Will my store be added to a public leaderboard?
- Every successful scan creates a shareable scorecard at
/scorecard/{your-domain}/— that is the viral mechanism. It is listed in the “Recently scanned” strip on the home page and added to the sitemap. If that visibility is a concern, scan from a staging URL first. - Why is the scan free?
- Because the free scan is the marketing. Anxious DTC founders share their score on social, that pulls more stores into a free scan, and a small fraction go on to buy the Pro auto-fix tier. The category itself is also new enough — Shopify activated Agentic Storefronts on 2026-03-24 — that no incumbent owns the AI-readiness audit yet, so scanning-then-paywalling the bulk-fix layer is the smart wedge.
